Michael Hawes, DVM, Dipl. ACVP
Dr. Hawes founded Charter Preclinical Services in 2006 in order to provide high quality veterinary pathology consulting services.  Charter's clientele has since grown to include local and national companies in need of high quality, individualized veterinary pathology services.

Prior to founding CPS, Dr. Hawes was a veterinary pathologist first at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine (his alma mater), then at Primedica Corporation, and finally at Genzyme Corporation.

At Genzyme, Dr. Hawes primarily reviewed slide specimens and data for preclinical safety and efficacy studies to support IND filings or BLA commitments.  His primary research areas were enzyme-replacement therapies, antibody-based therapies, and cell-based therapies including autologous chondrocyte implantation (Carticel) and cardiac cell therapy.

As a senior scientist (Veterinary Pathologist), Dr. Hawes represented the Department of Preclinical Biology at FDA or other international regulatory body meetings as part of a team of scientists and worked closely with the Dept. of Toxicology.  He has a strong knowledge of standard toxicological endpoints necessary for IND filings.

Dr. Hawes is familiar with a variety of research modalities, including immunohistochemistry, laser capture microdissection, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, electron microscopy, ELISA-based protein assays, cell culture techniques, and analysis..

In his spare time, Mike enjoys the beach, sailing, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with family.
